Examine Midwest welcomes two new interns for summer season 2025

This summer season, Examine Midwest has welcomed two interns who carry contemporary eyes and sharp expertise to our work masking meals, agriculture, and rural America.

Our interns are supported with beneficiant funding from David Jackson through the Gary Marx Journalism Fund.

Melissa Dai is Examine Midwest’s 2025 summer season reporting intern. She’s a rising senior at Northwestern College, the place she’s pursuing a profession in investigative journalism.

Beforehand, Dai labored as an investigative intern at NBC Chicago, the place she uncovered scams and fought for shopper resolutions. She’s printed two long-form investigations with MindSite Information — republished by The Enchantment and Capital B Information — about flawed police responses to psychological well being crises. She additionally produces characteristic tales for her college’s paper, The Each day Northwestern.

Juleanna DeShetler is an viewers engagement intern at Examine Midwest. From crafting social posts to digging into digital developments, she works to make sure tales about agriculture and rural America attain the individuals who want them most.
