Sweeney, greatest identified for her portrayal of Cassandra “Cassie” Howard on HBO’s Euphoria, has confronted a barrage of criticism this week following the discharge of her American Eagle adverts, which play off the phrases “genes” and “denims.”
“Genes are handed down from mother and father to offspring, typically figuring out traits like hair coloration, persona, and even eye coloration,” the actor explains in one of many adverts. “My denims are blue.”
A narrator then reads the tagline: “Sydney Sweeney has nice denims.”
